Can a power station run an electric blanket?

Updated
Short answer

Yes. A queen electric blanket is rated about 150 W and cycles to an average of about 75 W, so a 1,000 Wh power station runs it for about 11 to 12 hours, a full night with room to spare.

An electric blanket is the most efficient way to stay warm on battery. Sunbeam queen models are rated at 150 W, and most blankets fall between 100 and 200 W at full heat. The controller switches the heat on and off to hold your setting, so the element is not on all the time.

There is no motor and no start-up surge, so any station in our table can run one. For a typical 8-hour night at 75 W average, you use about 600 Wh. After inverter losses, that is roughly 700 Wh of battery. A 288 Wh unit lasts about 3 hours, a 500 Wh unit about 5.5, a 1,000 Wh unit about 11 to 12, and a 2,000 Wh unit about 23.

Compare that to a 1,500 W space heater, which averages about 750 W with its thermostat cycling and empties a 1,000 Wh unit in about an hour. A blanket uses about a tenth of the power. It warms you, not the room, so it will not keep pipes from freezing or a house warm. For that, a portable power station is the wrong tool.

How long does each power station run an electric blanket?

At about 75 W on average, an electric blanket runs for about 3 hrs on the 286 Wh EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus, about 11 hrs to 12 hrs on a 1,000 Wh-class unit (998–1,070 Wh) and about 46 hrs on the 4,096 Wh EcoFlow DELTA Pro 3.

Estimate: battery Wh × 0.85 ÷ 75 W average (150 W × 0.5 duty). Your model may draw more or less; check its label. Prices are typical ranges we checked by hand on October 9, 2026, not live prices.

Where these numbers come from

Queen-size heated blankets are rated around 150 W, and the controller cycles the heat, so an hour averages about half that. A full night uses roughly 600 Wh, far less than a space heater.

Make it last longer

  • • Preheat the bed on high, then turn it down once you are in. Lower settings let the controller cycle off more often.
  • • Put a comforter or extra blanket on top to hold the heat in.
  • • Use one blanket per sleeper rather than heating the whole room. Two queen blankets still average far less than one space heater.
  • • Follow the blanket's own safety instructions. Do not fold or bunch it up while it is on.

Common questions

How long will a power station run an electric blanket?
About 3 hours on a 288 Wh unit, 5.5 hours on a 500 Wh unit, 11 to 12 hours on a 1,000 Wh unit, and about 23 hours on a 2,000 Wh unit. That assumes a 150 W queen blanket cycling half the time.
Can a small power station run an electric blanket overnight?
Not a full night at our planning numbers. A 288 Wh unit lasts about 3 hours and the 499 Wh Goal Zero Yeti 500 about 5.5 hours. A lower setting cycles the heat off more often and stretches that.
Is an electric blanket better than a space heater during an outage?
On battery, yes. A blanket averages about 75 W, while a 1,500 W space heater averages about 750 W with its thermostat cycling. The same 1,000 Wh station runs the blanket for about 11 to 12 hours and the heater for about 1 hour.
Can I run an electric blanket and a CPAP on one power station?
Yes. Together they average about 109 W with the CPAP's heated humidifier and tube on, or about 82 W with the humidifier off. A 1,000 Wh unit lasts about 8 hours in the first case and about 10 to 11 hours in the second.
