Can a power station run a dehumidifier (50 pint)?

Updated
Short answer

Yes, if the station handles about 1,400 W at start-up. A 50-pint dehumidifier averages about 273 W, so a 1,000 Wh power station runs it for about 3 to 3.5 hours and a 2,000 Wh unit for about 6.5 hours.

A dehumidifier pulls water out of the air with a small compressor, the same part that cools a fridge. Our numbers use 545 W running, the rating of a common Frigidaire 50-pint model. The compressor switches on and off as the air dries, so in a damp basement it runs about half the time and averages about 273 W. For a second at start-up, it can ask for about 1,400 W. To check your own unit, multiply the amps on its label by 115 to get its running watts.

Start-up surge and output decide which stations can run it, and 17 of the 20 in our table can. The EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus cannot start it, because its surge stops at 1,200 W. The Jackery Explorer 300 v2 (300 W) and Goal Zero Yeti 500 (500 W) cannot cover the 545 W running draw. Each hour uses about 273 Wh, so the BLUETTI Elite 30 V2 lasts only about 55 minutes. A 1,000 Wh unit runs it for about 3 to 3.5 hours, a 2,000 Wh unit for about 6.5 hours and the Jackery HomePower 3000 for about 9.5 hours.

After a fall storm, a dehumidifier is a comfort load, so it comes last when the fridge and a sump pump share the battery. A fridge and sump pump together last about 7 hours on a 1,000 Wh unit, but add the dehumidifier and that drops to about 2 hours. Run it in shifts instead: a couple of hours to pull the worst damp out of the basement, then off while the pump and fridge carry on. If water is still coming in, keep the sump pump going first, since no dehumidifier can dry a basement that is flooding.

How long does each power station run a dehumidifier (50 pint)?

At about 273 W on average, a dehumidifier (50 pint) runs for about 55 min on the 288 Wh BLUETTI Elite 30 V2, about 3 hrs to 3.5 hrs on a 1,000 Wh-class unit (998–1,070 Wh) and about 13 hrs on the 4,096 Wh EcoFlow DELTA Pro 3. 3 units here can’t run it.

Estimate: battery Wh × 0.85 ÷ 273 W average (545 W × 0.5 duty). Your model may draw more or less; check its label. Prices are typical ranges we checked by hand on October 9, 2026, not live prices.

Where these numbers come from

Frigidaire's 50-pint FFAD5033W1 is rated 545 W and 7.8 amps at 115 V. The compressor cycles with humidity, so it averages about half its running watts in a damp basement.

Make it last longer

  • • Run the drain hose to a floor drain so the unit keeps going. On bucket mode it shuts itself off when the bucket is full, so empty it before each shift.
  • • Close the basement door and windows while it runs, so it dries one room instead of pulling in damp air from outside.
  • • Set the humidity target a little higher than usual during an outage. The compressor then cycles off sooner and the battery lasts longer.
  • • Run it during the day when solar panels can refill the station, and switch it off overnight when the fridge needs the charge more.
  • • Plug it straight into the station, not into a long, thin extension cord. A voltage drop at start-up can trip the station.
  • • Check the label before you size a station. Some 50-pint models draw up to about 840 W, which needs more output than our 545 W example.

Common questions

How long will a 1,000 Wh power station run a dehumidifier?
About 3 to 3.5 hours for a 50-pint unit that averages about 273 W. If your compressor runs more than half the time, expect less.
Can a 300 Wh power station run a dehumidifier?
Barely. The BLUETTI Elite 30 V2 runs a 50-pint unit for about 55 minutes. The EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus cannot start one with its 1,200 W surge, and the Jackery Explorer 300 v2 tops out at 300 W.
Why does my power station shut off when the dehumidifier starts?
The compressor asks for about 1,400 W for a moment when it kicks on. A station with a smaller surge rating trips. Look for at least 1,400 W of surge and 545 W of continuous output.
Can one power station run a dehumidifier, a sump pump and a fridge?
Only a big enough one. With the fridge and dehumidifier running, a pump start can reach about 2,795 W, which rules out the DJI Power 1000 V2 and BLUETTI AC180. All three together last about 2 hours on most 1,000 Wh units and about 4.5 hours on a 2,000 Wh unit.
How much power does a dehumidifier use in a day?
About 2,180 Wh for 8 hours at an average of about 273 W. That is more than a 2,000 Wh station can deliver after inverter losses, so plan on shifts.
