Can a power station run an Instant Pot / multicooker?

Updated
Short answer

Yes, if the station puts out at least 1,000 W, or 1,200 W for an 8-quart model. An hour of pressure cooking uses about 500 Wh, so a 1,000 Wh power station gives you about 1.5 to 2 hours of cooking.

The 6-quart Instant Pot Duo is rated at 1,000 W, and bigger pots draw more. It pulls that full power only while heating up to pressure, then switches on and off to hold it. Over an hour of cooking, that averages about half its rating, or roughly 400 to 600 Wh.

There is no motor surge, but the station's output must cover the full heating draw. Stations with 300 to 600 W of output cannot run it. All the 1,000 Wh class units in our table can. If you cook for about an hour a day, that is about 500 Wh, or roughly 600 Wh of battery after inverter losses. A 1,000 Wh unit gives you about 1.5 to 2 hours of cooking, and a 2,000 Wh unit about 3.5.

A pressure cooker is one of the better ways to cook on battery, since it seals in heat and cooks fast. Long programs and keep-warm time add up, so stick to recipes with short pressure times. For a long outage with lots of cooking, a camp stove used outdoors is the better tool.

How long does each power station run an Instant Pot / multicooker?

At about 500 W on average, an Instant Pot / multicooker runs for about 1.5 hrs to 2 hrs on a 1,000 Wh-class unit (998–1,070 Wh) and about 7 hrs on the 4,096 Wh EcoFlow DELTA Pro 3. 4 units here can’t run it.

Estimate: battery Wh × 0.85 ÷ 500 W average (1000 W × 0.5 duty). Your model may draw more or less; check its label. Prices are typical ranges we checked by hand on October 9, 2026, not live prices.

Where these numbers come from

A 6-quart Instant Pot is rated about 1,000 W (3-quart models about 700 W, 8-quart about 1,200 W). It draws full power only while coming up to pressure and then cycles on and off, so an hour of cooking uses roughly 500 Wh.

Make it last longer

  • • Turn off Keep Warm when cooking ends. A natural pressure release keeps cooking the food without drawing more power.
  • • Pick recipes with short pressure times, like rice, pasta and soups.
  • • Cook one bigger batch a day rather than several small meals. Most of the energy goes into heating up.
  • • Run it by itself on the station while it heats up to pressure.

Common questions

Can a power station run an Instant Pot?
Yes, if its continuous output is at least 1,000 W for a 6-quart model or 1,200 W for an 8-quart. Small 300 to 600 W stations cannot.
How much power does an Instant Pot use?
About 400 to 600 Wh per hour of cooking for a 6-quart model. It pulls its full 1,000 W only while heating to pressure, then cycles to hold it.
How many meals can a 1,000 Wh power station cook in an Instant Pot?
About 1.5 to 2 hours of cooking time. If a meal takes about 30 minutes including the heat-up, that is roughly 3 meals.
