Can a power station run a microwave (1000 W)?

Updated
Short answer

Yes, if the station puts out at least 1,500 W, and ideally 1,800 W. A 1,000 W microwave pulls about 1,500 W, so a 1,000 Wh unit gives you about 35 minutes of total cooking time.

The wattage on a microwave's box is the heat it puts into food. What it draws from the outlet is usually 40 to 50% higher. For a typical 1,000 W microwave, plan on about 1,500 W from the station, and up to 1,800 W for larger models.

That puts the output rating front and center. Stations with 300 to 600 W of output cannot run a microwave at all. The Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 is rated at exactly 1,500 W, which leaves no headroom. Look for 1,800 W or more. Boost modes such as EcoFlow X-Boost and BLUETTI Power Lifting are meant for simple heating devices like kettles, so do not count on them for a microwave.

The good news is that a microwave runs in short bursts. A 5-minute reheat uses about 125 Wh. If you use it 15 minutes a day, that is about 375 Wh, or roughly 440 Wh of battery. A 1,000 Wh unit handles about seven 5-minute reheats, and a 2,000 Wh unit about 14. For cooking full meals through a long outage, a power station is the wrong tool. A camp stove used outdoors will go further.

How long does each power station run a microwave (1000 W)?

At about 1,500 W on average, a microwave (1000 W) runs for about 35 min on a 1,000 Wh-class unit (998–1,070 Wh) and about 2.5 hrs on the 4,096 Wh EcoFlow DELTA Pro 3. 4 units here can’t run it.

Estimate: battery Wh × 0.85 ÷ 1,500 W average (1500 W × 1 duty). Your model may draw more or less; check its label. Prices are typical ranges we checked by hand on October 9, 2026, not live prices.

Where these numbers come from

The wattage on the box is cooking power, not what it pulls from the outlet: Toshiba rates a 1,100 W microwave at 1,550 W input. Plan on about 1,500 W from the station, so its AC output must be at least that, though a 5-minute reheat uses only about 125 Wh.

Make it last longer

  • • Run the microwave by itself. Turn off other loads first so the station has its full output available.
  • • Plug it directly into the station. A long, thin extension cord can drop the voltage and cause trips.
  • • Reheat smaller portions and cover the dish so food heats faster and the run time stays short.
  • • Check the input watts on the label inside the door or on the back. If it is close to the station's output rating, expect trouble.

Common questions

What size power station do I need to run a microwave?
One with at least 1,500 W of continuous output, and 1,800 W or more to be safe. A 1,000 W microwave pulls about 1,500 W from the outlet. Battery size matters less, since each use is short.
How long will a 1,000 Wh power station run a microwave?
About 35 minutes of total run time, or about seven 5-minute reheats. A 2,000 Wh unit gives about 70 minutes.
Why does my power station shut off when I start the microwave?
The microwave's input wattage is higher than the station's continuous output. A microwave sold as 1,000 W or 1,100 W can pull 1,500 W or more. Check the input rating on its label.
Can a 600 W power station run a microwave?
No. Microwaves pull about 1,000 to 1,800 W from the outlet, well above 600 W. Stations like the EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus and BLUETTI Elite 30 V2 will shut off or refuse the load.
